Terra Vil

João is 12 years old and lives on the banks of the Douro River with his unstable father, António, who is struggling with alcoholism. Next door lives Teresa and her teenage daughters, Paula and Liliana, for whom João has a special devotion. The five of them form a kind of dysfunctional family, based on a handmade fishing and lamprey-selling business. However, in a year plagued by drought and the effects of climate change, the profitability of the business is low, and António's erratic behavior makes the situation increasingly unsustainable. Realizing that Liliana is beginning to date another boy, João feels abandoned by the neighbor and can't hide his jealousy, replicating misogynistic attitudes he absorbs from his father. Until, on one of the early morning fishing trips, João witnesses a physical confrontation between his father and an inebriated Paula and is faced with a growing dilemma: should João take the side of his loyal but disturbed father or that of the affectionate and oppressed neighbors?
